The Knoxville Rotary Club held a ceremony Wednesday night honoring Caleb Reid’s completion of his Eagle Scout project.
Reid, a sophomore, planted trees at Knoxville Middle School for his project, which Rotary sponsored. Rotary also sponsored a project in 2020-2021 to replace four dead trees on the courthouse lawn. The ceremony was held at the courthouse gazebo, where Rotarian T. Waldmann-Williams spoke about Rotary and their desire to honor those who help the environment in the community. Reid spoke at the ceremony about his experience in scouts and his experience with the project. In conjunction with this project, a plaque and maple leaves naming prominent Rotarians, along with Caleb’s grandfather, and a past scoutmaster are on display at the courthouse gazebo. Caleb said it was an honor for the community to come out and support him.
“It really means a lot that a lot of people did come out. I’m just honored. It makes me feel good that my project will be around for a while for people to enjoy.”
Waldmann-Williams says that Caleb has learned many great skills with this project and she has loved the partnership he has had with Rotary.
“He’s being an environmental steward if you think about it. I think of the leadership skills that Caleb has gotten besides project management, leadership, communication, and helping all of us learn how to plant trees was really great.”
The metal leaves on display at the courthouse gazebo were designed by Caleb and made by Sean Sanger’s manufacturing class at Knoxville High School.
