The Indianola baseball team defeated Carlisle 13-3 on the road to claim victory in the Warren County rivalry contest Monday evening as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians struck first for four runs in the second inning despite getting just one hit, a two-RBI single by Ethan Grimsrud. After Carlisle plated three runs to cut the lead to one, Indianola exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run homerun by Asher Brueck.
The Indians added two more runs with an RBI groundout from George Blake and another solo homerun by Zach Benge. Luke Rockhold got the win on the mound, with Asher Brueck and Kaden Ritchie pitching scoreless relief innings.
Head coach Nathan Carlin said the Indians will be able to stretch the bullpen this week, as they still have five more games over the next four days.
“”We have a lot of guys in our bullpen that will throw strikes. We really haven’t played a busy week yet so we haven’t had to use that 6-11 type guy out of the bullpen. We are going to learn a lot about ourselves this week. Again, a lot of confidence in those guys to throw strikes and we have a good defense behind them.”
The Indians improve to 5-2, and will play at Pella Christian tomorrow to begin Little Hawkeye Conference play.
