The Marion County Humane Society is looking for volunteers as the shelter remains at capacity.

The humane society says volunteers are needed now more than ever due to the high number of dogs and cats being housed at the shelter. With the large amount of animals, there is a need for them to be taken for a walk and played with so they can get exercise and human interaction. Marion County Humane Society President Leslie VanderLinden says this is a great opportunity for kids who are now out of school.

“Come out and walk the dogs. School is out for the summer. We encourage kids to come out and walk our dogs and play with our cats. They really need the exercise and they need to get out of their kennels as much as possible. Some of the dogs have been here for a couple years, so it’s really important for them to get out and get interaction with those other than our staff.”

The humane society also is in a crucial need for the community to adopt. If you are interested in adopting or volunteering you can call the humane society or visit their website here.
