A special election is on the horizon for a Knoxville School Board vacancy after a petition was presented to the current board Tuesday Night, and two motions for appointments failed.
At Tuesday’s Knoxville School Board meeting, Cindy Fenoglio presented a petition with 478 signatures to request a special election for the vacancy, which exceeds the number of signatures needed. Those signatures will need to be officially verified. The board then interviewed two interested candidates, Dylan Mick and Marty Duffy, who were at the meeting. Tony Rider, who was also an interested candidate, withdrew his name from the pool.
The board held a discussion of the appointee candidates and Larry Scott made a motion to appoint Mick to the vacant school board seat, which was then seconded by Sullivan, but the motion failed. Brian Slykhuis then made a motion to appoint Duffy to the vacancy, but that motion failed due to the lack of a second. A special election is expected to occur in mid July for the school board vacancy which is estimated to cost taxpayers between $12,000 and $15,000.
