Pleasantville and Southeast Warren theater students will be honored at the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards Thursday night.

For the Pleasantville Fine Arts program, students Ivan Showers and Dawson Schrader will receive the Distinguished Scene award for “Alone in the Universe” from their production of Seussical the Musical. Senior Joslynn McCormick will also receive special recognition for her performance in Principal Role as Gerturude McFuzz in the same musical. McCormick said that she was glad to see all of their hard work be recognized and to get to individual honors among her peers.

“I was super excited to do a musical but it’s so much work, and I am really happy with my performance and I’m so glad that I get to be a part of this group that is celebrated with all these other people who are amazing. I don’t know everyone there, but I know a couple other seniors, and to just kind of be on the same quote on quote level as them is kind of crazy to me.”

Southeast Warren’s November production of Frozen Jr. will receive the Distinguished Scene award for the Finale. In addition to that award, Southeast Warren students Olivia Harrington and Jadlyn Doyle will represent the school in a collaborative inter-school medley led by a guest Broadway music director and choreographer.

The 2024 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase will be held at the Des Moines Civic Center tomorrow night at 7 pm.
