A town hall meeting was held Wednesday night ahead of RAGBRAI’s overnight stop in Knoxville on July 24th.
At the meeting, Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch gave attendees an update of details surrounding the overnight stop by providing the most up-to-date information regarding the large event. There was also a time where community members had a chance to ask questions regarding anything related to the overnight stay. The RAGBRAI executive committee informed the public about traffic, camping, maps, hospitality, vendors, public safety, entertainment, volunteer needs and more. Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nathan Sage says RAGBRAI encourages overnight communities to have these events to keep the public informed.
“Obviously when you have 20,000 riders coming into your community it’s going to cause congestion on the roads, and it’s going to cause issues as far as work that day. They want everyone to know where it’s going to go, how it’s going to work, and what to expect. We’re trying to get as much of that out. The problem with it is right now from this standpoint we just haven’t made all the decisions so we can’t put everything out. Once those decisions are completely made we can put more out. That’s why I invite everyone to come out on July 10th, the next town hall, and we will have a lot more information at that time.”
