Habitat for Humanity of Marion County held a home dedication for Pierce and Kayla Raleigh in Pleasantville on Thursday.

The dedication began with a brief welcome and prayer from Living Word Fellowship Pastor Doug Brady. Following the welcome, the Knoxville Federated Garden Club presented a certificate for a tree that will be planted at the home. Habitat for Humanity then gifted the Raleigh family a Bible, a plant, and presented them with the keys to their new home. Habitat for Humanity of Marion County Executive Director Amy Meyer says that they are grateful to be able to provide the Raleigh family and other families throughout Marion County with affordable housing.

“We know the need is there. We know that we need more houses in general, but then we also need more houses that people can afford. We need these positions in our towns, we need these people to come here and work here, but then we don’t always have affordable housing available for them. So, what makes me really excited is their mortgage payment is going to be truly affordable. I know the word affordable gets used a lot, but this is truly affordable. In some cases, it’s even less than the rent they were paying.”

Habitat for Humanity of Marion County will hold another home dedication today in Bussey for the Johnson Family. Hear more from Amy Meyer on an upcoming In Touch with South Central Iowa.
