The Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City is seeking volunteers for their Second Saturday Stewardship event on Saturday from 9 am-noon.

Volunteers are needed to do trail maintenance and invasive plants removal along their walking trails. Volunteers will use hand tools to clear the trails and remove invasive plants from the tallgrass prairie, while learning about Iowa’s native ecosystems and wildlife. Individuals, families, and groups are welcome to participate in the event. Participants are required to fill out a volunteer agreement, and those under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the form. Volunteers are required to wear pants, closed shoes suitable for field work, and a long sleeve shirt.
