The #1 Norwalk Warriors swept #14 Indianola Monday night in Little Hawkeye Conference play, including a dominating victory in game one 11-0 in five innings, and 7-4 in game two that required a seventh-inning rally heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Warriors jumped all over Indianola in the first game scoring four runs in the first including a two-run home run by Lauren Black, scored another three in the second off of a three-run home run by Grace Dehmer, another three runs in the third that included another solo home run by Bailey Birmingham and a two-run homer from Dehmer, and capped it off with another run in the fourth. Carly Brewer dominated in the circle to pick up the win, allowing just two hits.
Game two was a much different affair, with Indianola pitcher Ava Tichy holding the top-ranked Norwalk offense to just one hit through the first four innings. Warriors pitcher Olivia Dougherty also held serve however until the fourth inning, when back-to-back walks were driven in by freshman Haley New for Indianola, followed up by a Katie Fosenburg two-run home run to put the Indians up 4-0. Norwalk would answer right back in the fifth after a costly Indianola error prolonged the inning and Nyah Hulbert hit another longball to cut the lead to 4-2.
Indianola held on until the seventh inning when the Warriors first five batter reached base, four hits and one walk to tie the score, then Lauren Black hit a three-run home run to put Norwalk up for good 7-4.
Dougherty earned the win on the mound for Norwalk, while Hulbert went 3-4 at the plate, while Tichy picks up the tough-luck loss.
Norwalk improves to 10-0 and 5-0 in conference and will host Boone tonight. Indianola falls to 6-6 and 3-2, and matches up with Dallas Center-Grimes on the road Thursday.
