Habitat for Humanity of Marion County dedicated their three newest houses in Knoxville, Pleasantville and Bussey last week.

This was the first year that the organization built multiple homes in a year, due in large part to state and federal funding received as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While there were challenges with building more homes, Executive Director Amy Meyer says she was excited by the results and that she’s hopeful they can take on more projects in the years to come.

“There’s obviously hiccups with every house, there’s going to be problems, there’s going to be setbacks, but I’m just really happy and I think it’s really given me confidence that we have more capacity than we were giving ourselves credit for. And so, now next year we’re building three again and then the following year if things fall into place, I don’t know why we couldn’t build four.”

Habitat for Humanity is hoping to begin work on their next three projects later this summer. Learn more about organization on today’s In Touch with South Central Iowa.
