Knoxville’s new public safety/city hall facility is one of the project funding requests submitted by Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks for Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations.

The 15 projects will now go through the House Appropriations Committee for approval. Miller-Meeks said in a statement that all of these projects will benefit Iowa’s First Congressional District. The new public safety/city hall facility in Knoxville will be at the site of the former Knoxville Middle School that was recently demolished. The city is currently in the planning process with architects for the large scale project. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery is pleased that the project has been moved forward for funding from Miller-Meeks’s office.

“This will be funded through local option sales tax, so no cost to property tax owners. As we seek grant opportunities that just allows us to utilize local option sales tax for other community projects. We submitted an application earlier this year to the Miller-Meeks office for $2.7 Million of that project, and we have went through the review process within that office. We did an interview with her and it has now been moved to the House Appropriations Committee for approval.”

The city will find out if the funding is received in the fall.
