indianola-8

The Indianola softball team was swept in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader by Dallas Center-Grimes on Thursday, 11-7 and 12-8 with game two heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians got ahead 6-2 in game one, getting runs in the third inning with a pair of three-run home runs by Sam Gripp and Ava Tichy, but were unable to hold on as the Mustangs took advantage of Indianola miscues and scored eight runs in one inning to close the game out.

Game two was much closer, as Indianola pushed ahead early with RBI hits from Gripp and Katie Fosenburg, and would lead 5-2 after the third inning with another two-run home run by Gripp added. The Mustangs used attrition to get back in front however, scoring runs in each of the next several innings to lead 7-5 heading into the sixth. Fosenburg hit a two-RBI double to tie the score going into the bottom of the innings, but another DCG offensive explosion of five runs sealed the game.

The Indians fall to 6-8 on the season and 3-4 in conference play, and will next compete in a tournament at Cedar Rapids tomorrow.
