The first of two Tulip City Showdowns between the Pella and Pella Christian summer sports teams will be renewed tonight on Eagle Lane.

On the baseball diamond, the Eagles are looking to get back over .500 after falling to 8-8 overall on the season with a loss to Newton on Wednesday night. The Dutch baseball squad has gotten off to a strong start this summer, opening the season with a 9-4 record after defeating Knoxville Thursday night. Pella has controlled the matchups against Pella Christian on the baseball diamond in the Bound era, winning the season series each year since 2012.

The Eagles and Dutch softball teams were originally scheduled to compete in a doubleheader this evening, but will now compete in a single game at 7:15 pm, as Pella Christian is forfeiting game one due to injuries. The Eagles are looking to erase a seven game losing streak this season that last saw them fall to Newton on Wednesday. Pella is looking to finish off the week with a 4-1 record on the field, after winning single games against Oskaloosa and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and splitting a doubleheader with Dallas Center-Grimes. Pella Christian and the Dutch have split the last two season series played between the two teams, with the Eagles winning last season’s series two games to one and Pella winning two games to one in 2022.

Tonight’s baseball doubleheader between Pella and Pella Christian can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 5:15 pm. The softball game between the Dutch and the Eagles can be heard on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com, with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 pm.
