The Knoxville Police Department is reminding the community of bike and motorcycle safety.
The number of bicycles and motorcycles increase on Iowa roads during the summer months. For riders, it is important to always make themselves visible while riding by wearing bright colors, reflective gear at night, never weaving in and out of traffic, and to not operate while distracted. Last year there were 63 motorcycle fatalities in the State of Iowa and Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller said one of the most important things any rider can do is use proper safety equipment.
“Wear a helmet. Iowa doesn’t have a mandatory helmet law, but I can tell you based on my experience with motorcycle crashes and even bicycle crashes that helmets really do make a difference.”
