The Indianola softball team walked off the Oskaloosa Indians Monday night in Little Hawkeye Conference play to win 4-3, while the baseball team took a no-hitter into the sixth inning on their way to an 11-1 win heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The softball team got a solo home run by Sam Gripp to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then after Osky tied the score in the fourth got another solo homer from Tessa Gripp to lead 2-1. Osky tied the score again in the sixth but Indianola took a 3-2 lead going into the seventh when Dana Blake scored on an error, only to see Oskaloosa tie the score in the seventh inning 3-3. Bria Boell led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, and Sully Downey doubled for the walkoff win. Tessa Gripp went 2-2 at the plate, while Ava Tichy picked up the win.
It was a slow start for the Indians baseball team, as the game was scoreless until the third inning when Jack Strong doubled in a run, and the Indians doubled their lead in the fourth with an RBI sacrifice fly by Gage Sinn. Indianola exploded in the fifth inning however, scoring seven runs on just five hits, with Sinn hitting a two-RBi single and Bo Blake hitting an RBI single. Osky got a run back in the sixth, but Indianola scored two more in the bottom of the inning to end the contest early with an RBI single by Ryker Burgin and a walkoff walk by Asher Brueck. Brueck pitched a gem on the mound, throwing 5 ⅔ no-hit innings to earn the win.
The softball team is now 8-10 overall and 4-4 in conference play, and next plays on the road at Waukee Northwest tonight. The baseball team is now 10-7 and 5-3, and will host Newton for a conference doubleheader tomorrow.
