Each team committed five errors, but it was Pella who made the most of their chances in a 4-1 softball win over Knoxville in the Red Rock Rivalry heard live on both KNIA and KRLS Tuesday evening.
The Panthers’ uncharacteristic miscues all played at least some part in all four tallies the Dutch were able to muster, which included marks in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th innings. Knoxville would strand nine runners in the effort at the plate, missing several of their own opportunities.
Three Dutch errors in the 7th inning briefly opened the door for a home team comeback, but Emma Eekhoff was able to battle around and retire Knoxville before they could get more than one run.
Elah Hiemstra was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, Eekhoff gave up just four hits in a seven-inning complete game victory with five strikeouts, and added a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Marlea Cox was 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers offensively and Charlye Willis had one earned run of the four allowed with 5 Ks of her own in the circle.
The Dutch improve to 10-4 overall and host No. 1 in 4A Norwalk tonight for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader. Game two will be on KRLS3 at KNIAKRLS.com; baseball is on 92.1 KRLS.
Knoxville falls to 6-6 overall and will travel to Cardinal in South Central Conference action this evening.
