The Norwalk Softball team continued their dominance Wednesday night as they came up with two lopsided victories over Pella in a Little Hawkeye Conference varsity doubleheader, with game two heard live on the KNIA3 stream.
In game one the #2 ranked Warriors picked up a 14-0 win over the Dutch in four innings after Norwalk pushed eight runs across in the third inning. Jalynn Brandt had a four hit game for Norwalk while Nyah Hubert had three, and Bailey Birmingham had a home run. The Warriors also saw an impressive performance in the pitching circle by Carly Brewer who held Pella to just one hit.
The Warriors picked up an 11-1 victory over Pella in game two in five innings. The Dutch and Warriors were tied 1-1 going into the second and a three run home run by Bailey Birmingham gave Norwalk some momentum. An RBI double by Katie Scheckel in the first inning turned out to be the only run scored by Pella all evening. Norwalk’s starting pitcher Olivia Dougherty was able to hold the Dutch to just two hits in game two. Going into the fifth inning with a 6-1 lead the Warriors bats continued to be dangerous as they tacked on five more runs. Norwalk Head softball coach Beau Livingston said when his team swings the bats well they are tough to beat.
“I thought we were pretty dominant in the circle which helped us get off to good starts. I just thought all night we just really had good approaches at the plate outside of the first inning in the first game when we had some ugly at bats. I thought we adjusted quickly and we just put pressure on them. We swung it well tonight and I think when we swing it well we are pretty tough to beat.”
After Wednesday’s doubleheader, Norwalk improves to 17-2 overall and Pella falls to 10-6. The Warriors will be back in action Friday against Oskaloosa, and the Dutch will next compete tonight in a doubleheader when they host Albia.
