The Norwalk baseball and softball teams finished the week on a good note Friday night, both winning close decisions at Oskaloosa.
Baseball wins 2-1
The Warrior baseball team rode an outstanding pitching performance from Kingston Lamb and Aidan Harder to defeat the Indians 2-1 and complete a sweep of the three-game season series. Lamb allowed one unearned run in six innings, striking out seven batters and walking just one. Harder notched the save with a 1-2-3 seventh, striking out the side.
Norwalk took a 1-0 lead in the first when Mason Vogel doubled and was driven home by Harder. The Warriors plated the winning run in the fifth as CJ Davis led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on a dropped fly ball. Davis finished 2-for-3 with a walk and four steals. Norwalk improved to 6-4 in Little Hawkeye Conference play and 9-11 overall.
Softball wins 5-3
The Class 4A 2nd-ranked Norwalk softball team trailed Oskaloosa 3-2 after three innings, but went ahead with two runs in the fourth and prevailed 5-3. The Warriors capped a 6-0 week and a season sweep of the Indians, improving to 9-1 in the Little Hawkeye and 18-2 overall.
Nyah Hulbert led Norwalk at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a sacrifice fly and three runs batted in. Carly Brewer hit a pair of doubles and Addi Downe added a double and one RBI. Downe was also the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and one earned run in four innings. Olivia Dougherty pitched three scoreless frames for the save, surrendering one hit and striking out six.
Both Norwalk squads return to the diamond on Monday, hosting Newton for varsity doubleheaders at 5:30.
