The Indianola and Pella softball teams split a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader Monday evening, Pella winning game one 3-2 and Indianola game two 11-9 heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians went ahead early in game one 2-0 on Alexa Guyer and Dana Blake’s RBI singles, only to be answered by the Dutch in the bottom of the inning with RBI hits from Camryn Long and Ava Curry. That score would hold until the bottom of the sixth inning when Ava Curry hit a bloop single to drive in the winning run, and Dutch pitcher Emma Eekhoff hold off the Indians to earn the complete game victory.

Indianola scored first in game one, taking a 2-0 lead off the back of an RBI double by Tessa Gripp and a sacrifice fly by Ashley Schultz, but Pella answered back in a big way, knocking out starting pitcher Sam Gripp en route to a 6-run inning. The Dutch got RBI hits from Emma Eekhoff and a sacrifice fly from Katie Scheckel, then got two-RBI hits from Avery Parks and Camryn Long to get ahead. Indianola came back to score three in the third inning, then had their own 6-run inning in the fourth to take an 11-6 lead highlighted by an RBI hit from Schultz and a 3-run home run by Sam Gripp.

Pella did not go quietly, scoring two runs in the fourth with hits from Eekhoff and Scheckel, then another in the sixth with an Elah Heimstra sacrifice fly, but couldn’t get through in the final inning as Indianola held on.

Dana Blake, Tessa Gripp, and Sam Gripp all had three hits for the Indians in the contest, with Schultz earning the win in the circle. Indianola is now 11-13 and 6-6 in conference, and will travel to Norwalk tomorrow.
