A 14-run second inning was more than enough for the Pella Christian baseball team Tuesday night, as they defeated PCM 18-3 in four innings in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Mustangs got the scoring started in the top of the first inning on Gabe Hobbs’ RBI single and an Eagles error to take the early 2-0 advantage. Pella Christian immediately answered in the bottom of the frame, with Eliot Menninga blasting a three run homer to left field and Trevor Veenstra plating a run on a fielder’s choice to put the Eagles in front 4-2. Pella Christian then blew the game open in the second inning, as every batter recorded two plate appearances en route to scoring 14 runs on six hits, six hit by pitches, and three walks to take an 18-2 lead. PCM got a run back in the top of the third, but that was as close as they would get, as Pella Christian ended the game via the run-rule in the fourth inning.

For the Eagles, Tysen DeVries went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Menninga, Veenstra, and Brecken Ritzert combined to bat in 12 of the team’s 18 runs. Nick Farver led the Mustangs offense on the night, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Grant Kelderman recorded the win for Pella Christian, as they improved to 10-15 overall on the season, while Shay Burns took the loss for PCM, as they fell to 7-11 overall.

The Eagles baseball team is back in action tonight, as they join the softball team for single Little Hawkeye Conference games against Oskaloosa. First pitch of the softball game is set for 7:15 pm, while the baseball game begins at 7:30pm. PCM has tonight off, before traveling to Roland-Story for a Heart of Iowa Conference game on Thursday.
