The Iowa legislature has made minor changes to the rules and regulations for student open enrollment between school districts.
Open enrollment is for students and families who live in one school district but wish to enroll their children in another school district. According to Pleasantville Community School District Superintendent Tony Aylsworth, the open enrollment deadline for the 2024-2025 school year is now July 1st, 2024, while the deadline for the 2025-2026 school year is March 1st, 2025. Aylsworth says that the district will likely see no impact from these changes, and adds that families currently enrolled in Pleasantville Schools will not be affected by the new deadlines.
“Most families when they decide to change schools, they try to do so sometime in the spring, and so really the changes for us I don’t think will be all that impactful. When new families wish to test the waters, if you will, for open enrollment, they can still go out to our website, pvillecsd.org. We’ve got a really nice breakdown on the district site of what the process looks like for open enrollment, the steps you need to go through, and the things you need to be thinking about. For families that are already open enrolled, in or out, they don’t need to do anything differently. And so, it’ll just be business as usual for them and shouldn’t be all that disruptive.”
