It was twice as nice on Panther Drive as both Knoxville Baseball and Softball Squad recorded wins over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The softball girls won 6-3 live on 95.3 KNIA. Knoxville jumped on top early as the bats got the early wake up call to go up 3-0, but the Rockets struck for three of their own in the 3rd to tie the game at three. However Knoxville would get one in the 4th and two more in the 5th to build back to a three run lead. Knoxville rapped out ten hits and what made Coach Chris Peden most happy was the patience the girls showed at the plate.

Peden: “The thing I was most proud of was our patience, we didn’t come up there so aggressive and swing at the first pitch, we waited on the pitch we wanted and that made me most happy.”

Ciara Heffron got the win in relief while Marlea Cox got two hits and two RBI and twin sister Macy also knocked in two runs, Ralei Danner went 3/3. Knoxville stands at 9-8 and 8-2 in the South Central Conference.

Across the way on Panther Drive, the baseball squad enjoyed a 6-2 win over the Rockets. Just like the softball squad Knoxville also jumped out with three runs in the bottom of the 1st. Urban Ziller blasted a two run homer for some extra cushion in the 5th inning. Lincoln Norris got the win going six complete innings allowing just three hits, walked two and struck out nine. Knoxville baseball is now 10-12 on the season and 6-5 in the South Central Conference and can stay within striking distance as the Panthers host a double header on Thursday. The nightcap of that twin bill can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA.
