Pella High School History Teacher and Middle School Boys Wrestling coach Chase Petty took first place in the under 189 pound weight division at the first Iowa Jiu Jitsu State Championship qualifiers.
Petty, who has been training at Pella Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the past eight months, will compete in the first Iowa State Championship Tournament on August 3rd in Des Moines. The first qualification round was this past February, when Knoxville Local Matt Strucker won the Masters under 189 lbs division. Both Matt Strucker and Chase Petty will represent Pella Brazilian Jiu Jitsu this August for a shot at the first ever title of Subspectrum Iowa State Champion.
Petty was both a state qualifying wrestler for Pella High School and national qualifier for Central College.
Kids from Pella Brazilian Jiu Jitsu also competed at the Subspectrum qualifiers and won several rounds, with Aaron Dye and Logan Gass each winning two Gold Medals in their skill and age divisions.
