The Indianola baseball team swept their pair of non-conference games on Saturday taking down Sioux City West 8-2 and Dowling 9-3, while the softball team went 1-1 at their home tournament falling to Martensdale-St. Mary’s 5-3 and defeating I-35 16-7.
Luke Byers pitched game one for the baseball team going six innings giving up one run, while Bo Blake went 2-3 at the plate with two runs driven in. In game two, Luke Rockhold pitched a complete game for the win scoring three runs on the day, while Gage Sinn earned two hits at the plate. The team improves to 19-9 on the season, and will host Dallas Center-Grimes Monday. The game will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA, with Clayton Sampson on the call. Pregame coverage begins at approximately 7:15pm.
The softball team trailed 2-0 going into the sixth inning against Martensdale, but scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth needing just three outs to get a win, however the Blue Devils scored in the 7th to force extras then twice in the eighth to win it. Tess Gripp had two hits in the contest. The Indians jumped all over the Roadrunners in game two, scoring all of their runs in the first four innings to win it. Indianola is now 12-15 on the season, and also matches up with the Mustangs Monday.
