The City of Indianola has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for $650,000 to go towards commercial revitalization and economic development in the Indianola Downtown Square as announced earlier this month.
Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the grant award will be paired with matching 25% contributions from the City and participating property owners for eight building facades, totaling approximately $1.3 million invested into the Square for improvements.
The City of Indianola’s grant application focused on the elimination of slum and blight and to meet urgent needs, incorporating a direct connection with the Downtown Facade and Interior Improvement Program.
Construction is anticipated to begin either later this fall or winter and substantial completion by Winter 2025.
