Pella Regional Health Center announced that Tammy Kendall in the Medical-Surgical Unit is the recipient of their quarterly DAISY Award. The DAISY program is a national award, given at the local level, to registered nurses who exemplify extraordinary nursing. The focus is on the special touches and human consideration these nurses give to their patients.

Excerpt from Tammy’s nomination by co-worker Dakota Claussen:

“Tammy was the nurse assigned to a patient with a femur fracture. The patient had been unable to rest due to pain from the injury. Tammy did everything she could medically to get the patient comfortable. Tammy asked her if there was anything at all that she could do to help. The family mentioned that the patient had a cat at home that would always sleep on the patient’s lap or chest, and that she needed her cat. Tammy went to the gift shop at the hospital and purchased a weighted stuffed cat that can be warmed in the microwave. The patient was able to fall asleep and get much needed rest.”

Kendall received a certificate that reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” She was also given a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
