The Indianola softball team earned two lopsided victories over Oskaloosa on the road Wednesday night with game two heard live on 94.3 KNIA, and the Indian baseball team split in their respective Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders.
The Indianola softball team won game one 14-1. After heading into the seventh inning holding on to a 7-1 lead, Indianola exploded for seven runs in the seventh with help from home runs. In game two, Indianola picked up an 11-0 win in six innings after an impressive pitching performance from Ashley Schultz. Indianola held a narrow 3-0 lead heading into the fourth inning, but the bats came alive as they scored six runs in the fourth after batting through their lineup. A long home run by Katie Fosenburg in the sixth put the game even more out of reach as Indianola completed two statement wins. Indianola softball coach Stacy Evans says she was pleased with the effort of her team in the two games.
“I was proud of the girls. I think we ended up with 18 hits. They were giving each other pep talks in the line as far as what they were seeing at the plate and they were making the adjustments so it was good.”
After the two wins, the Indianola softball team improves to 14-16 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
The Indianola baseball team defeated Oskaloosa 4-2 in game one as Asher Bruek picked up the win on the mound throwing six innings and recording seven strikeouts. In game two, Indianola fell to Oskaloosa 9-1 to split on the night. After the split, the Indianola baseball team moves to 21-10 overall and 11-6 in the conference.
The Indianola softball team will be back in action tonight on the road at Newton while the baseball team hosts Mason City.
