The Indianola baseball team defeated Mason City at home Thursday night as the softball team fell on the road at Newton.
The Indian baseball team defeated the Riverhawks 5-2 to secure the non-conference win. Luke Rockhold had a strong performance on the mound, throwing five innings just giving up two runs and picking up eight strikeouts while Kaden Ritchie pitched the final two innings giving up no runs. Andrew DeWall and Ethan Grimsrud both had strong nights at the plate for Indianola each going 2-3. After the win the Indianola baseball team improves to 22-10 overall.
The Indianola softball team fell to Newton 4-2 in a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup. The Indians started off the game strong offensively scoring two runs in the first, but Newton scored four in the second to round out the scoring for the entire game. From the third inning on it was a pitcher’s duel with neither team able to push any additional runs across. After the loss, the Indianola softball team falls to 14-17 overall.
The Indianola baseball team will next compete tonight on the road at Newton while the softball team will compete in the DCG invitational during the day with games against Ankeny Centennial and Des Moines Roosevelt.
