It was more of an inning-to-inning pile on as opposed to an explosive effort, but the No. 3 in 4A Norwalk softball team still dominated Pella 10-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference finale to clinch a share of the league title Thursday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Warriors jumped to a 2-0 lead in the 1st and scored multiple runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th innings to push themselves to win No. 25 of the summer. Olivia Dougherty dominated the Dutch with 11 strikeouts in five innings to earn the win, and Jaylynn Brandt finished the night 3-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in. Pella just mustered four base runners against a favorite to get to Fort Dodge that could be standing in their way to that destination come July 16th, as both are in the same regional bracket.
Pella falls to 17-11 overall, but does finish the 2024 conference season in 3rd place, while the Warriors improve to 25-4 overall and earn at least co-conference championship claim, awaiting the results of DCG at Oskaloosa early next week. Norwalk is scheduled to play in the DCG tournament today; the Dutch are off until they head home to host Perry on Monday, which can be heard on 92.1 KRLS and viewed on Pella Dutch Live.
