The Indianola baseball team took advantage of dominant pitching and timely offense against Des Moines Lincoln to earn an 11-1 home victory heard live on 94.3 KNIA Monday night, while the long ball propelled the Indians softball team to a 9-5 victory at Ottumwa.

At home, the Indianola baseball needed just one hit in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, capitalizing on a pair of walks and an error to go up 3-0. The Indians offense went stagnant in the middle innings, before combining to score eight runs on six hits in the fifth and sixth innings to end the game via the run rule in the sixth inning. Bryant Ritchie turned in a stellar performance on the mound to record the win, giving up just one unearned run on two hits over five innings and recording eight strikeouts. Asher Brueck also recorded a strikeout, pitching the sixth inning to complete the three hitter for the Indians pitching staff. The top of Indianola’s lineup propelled the offense on the night, with Luke Rockhold, George Blake, and Ethan Grimsrud combining to go 7-for-10 at the plate with two doubles, seven RBIs, and one walk. The win pushed the Indians to 24-10 overall.

In Ottumwa, the Indianola softball team utilized a two-run homer to take a 3-0 in the first inning, before adding a solo home run in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 4-0. After the Bulldogs plated a run in the fourth, the Indians answered with four runs in the sixth and tacked on an extra insurance run in the seventh to minimize Ottumwa’s four run bottom of the frame and improve to 17-17 overall. Freshmen Alexa Guyer and Sam Gripp contributed the two home runs and a combined four RBIs to lead the Indianola offense on the night, while Ava Tichy recorded the complete game win in the circle.

Weather pending, the Indianola baseball team is scheduled to be back in action at home tonight against Bettendorf at 7 pm, while the softball team is slated to be back on the road at Ames at 7.
