After handing them their only loss of the season on May 23rd, the Pella Christian baseball team was unable to replicate that performance Monday in a 7-1 loss at Class 2A #1 West Marshall.

The Trojans got the scoring started with a run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Eagles answered back with a run in the top of the third, with Luke Fynaardt’s fielder’s choice plating Garrett Wielard to tie the game at 1-1. From there it was all West Marshall, as they scored four runs in the bottom of the third, two more runs in the fourth, and held on the rest of the way to drop Pella Christian to 12-20 overall on the season. Tysen De Vries, Fynaardt and Grant Kelderman were the lone Eagles to record hits, with each posting one on the night. Trevor Veenstra, Kelderman, and Brecken Ritzert split the six innings on the mound, combining to give up seven runs on five hits and eight walks. Kelderman suffered the loss in the 0.2 innings he pitched, while Veenstra threw the opening 1.1 inning and Ritzert threw the final four innings.

Weather pending, the Pella Christian baseball team is scheduled to join the softball team in non-conference action again tonight. The Eagles baseball team is slated to host Grand View Christian in a 7:30 pm game that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, while the softball team hosts Class 2A #6 Sigourney at 7:15.
