A new senior housing project in Knoxville’s Veterans District is moving forward after securing federal housing tax credits from the Iowa Finance Authority.

The “Residence at Veterans Park” housing project, which will be located on the south side of West Pleasant St., will consist of 48 rental units for seniors. The project by Overland Group LLC. will help with the current shortage of housing in the Knoxville community. These federal housing tax credits were given to ten rental housing projects throughout the state. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says this development will help with a housing shortage.

“With the housing needs assessment showing that we need hundreds of new units of senior housing, and that was done in 2016, and Knoxville has not added senior housing since then, the demand is there, and this will be a great project that will fill some of those needs.”

Overland will acquire approximately three acres of “Block A” of the Veterans District for this project and the other land of the 6.67 acre plot is expected to be the future home of a new apartment complex.
