The Norwalk softball team capped the regular season with a lopsided road win on Monday night while the baseball team lost a close decision at Waukee Northwest.
The Class 4A third-ranked Warrior softball squad improved to 27-7 with an 11-1 victory over Council Bluffs Lewis Central. The game was played at Iowa Western Community College. Olivia Dougherty, Addi Downe and Carly Brewer all pitched for Norwalk, combining for 13 strikeouts in five innings. Nyah Hulbert and Lauren Black both had multiple hits on offense.
The Warriors’ next game will be a 4A Region 6 semifinal on Saturday night when they host either Newton or Ballard at 7:00 p.m.
The Norwalk baseball team took an early 1-0 lead at Waukee Northwest, but lost a 3-1 decision to the Class 4A eighth-ranked Wolves. The Warriors outhit Northwest 5-2, getting a double from CJ Davis and singles by Cole Wardlow, Payton Nichols, Briley Purcell and Caleb Ochanpaugh. Courtesy runner Josh Pinns scored the team’s only run on a passed ball in the top of the first.
Norwalk’s Aidan Harder pitched five innings, allowing only two hits and three earned runs. He walked four and hit two batters. Nichols pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning in relief.
The Warriors dropped to 13-17 overall and will close out the regular season tonight, hosting ADM at 7:30. The game can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, starting with pregame coverage at approximately 7:20. It is also Senior Night for 11 Norwalk players.
