A chance to move on in the class 1A district final is in front of the Twin Cedars Baseball Squad tonight as North Mahaska stands in the Sabers’ way. Twin Cedars got to the semifinal round by breezing by Seymour on Saturday night 15-0 and North Mahaska turned back Melcher-Dallas also on Saturday. The Sabers and Warhawks played on June 6th this season with Twin Cedars winning 10-7. In that game, the Sabers jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but had to hold on to win. Coach Mateo Varese is confident his guys can handle the pitching from North Mahaska while his arms can hold down the Warhawks’ bats.

Varese: “They haven’t really got to see much of our guys. Their #1 guys is good, but he probably pitches against teams he shouldn’t go up against, so that persuades the stats, but I think out guys are confident and they know him.”

Twin Cedars lost to North Mahaska in the first round of the district last season. The game has been moved from Lynnville-Sully to Twin Cedars and will start at 7:00.
