Run prevention was the key for both summer teams as the Pella softball girls won their 20th game of 2024 in Saydel and the baseball boys overcame a sluggish offensive performance Tuesday evening. The Dutch girls won 7-1 over the Eagles, while Pella narrowly knocked off Davis County 1-0.

On the road, Emma Eekhoff was in complete control, striking out 12 batters in the victory, including the first eight at the plate for Saydel. Elah Heimstra, Lucy Carlson, and Riley Parks each added two hits in the effort. Pella’s 20-win season is its first since the 2015 state tournament team. The softball girls open the postseason Thursday against 0-29 South Tama at home. Watch the game on Pella Dutch Live and listen on 92.1 KRLS.

Pella’s baseball team got the one run it needed with a Samuel Carlson sac-fly RBI, and played solid defense behind Nathan Vander Waal and his five innings of work on the mound, giving up just three hits. Carlson was able to escape a bases-loaded jam in the 7th to earn the save on a night where Pella only tallied five baserunners of their own. The Dutch now are 24-8 overall and head to Saydel for their regular season finale tonight.
