One would be hard pressed to find many high school baseball teams in Iowa with as many seniors as Norwalk. When the Warriors celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday, 10 players were recognized with their parents prior to first pitch. All 10 were included in head coach Chad Wiedmann’s starting lineup and played most of the game.

The end result was a 12-0 loss to ADM, but senior infielder Dawson King – who moved to catcher as part of the modified lineup – tells KNIA Sports that it was a special night for the senior class.

“Playing here was so much fun, and just playing with the same guys all the way through,” King said. “We lost some on the way but a lot of them stayed through [to the end]. Ten seniors – that’s a lot. That’s more than a lot of classes can say they’ve ever had.”

In addition to King, the list of Warrior seniors includes CJ Davis, Caleb Ochanpaugh, Aidan Harder, Payton Nichols, Mason Vogel, Josh Pinns, Jake Ferguson, Holdyn Havick and Ben Peterson. King says that good team chemistry and a fun atmosphere have created the type of environment to keep so many seniors involved in the program.

“It’s hard to get bored here,” he said. “There’s always something to do, whether we’re at the field, having a game, or just even in the dugout everyone’s having a good time. We’re all talking to each other and I think for the group of guys we (have), this year we all grew up together and I think just coming out one more time together was really important for everybody.”

Sporting a 13-18 record, the Warriors will play at least one more game as they open Class 4A Substate play on Friday night at Ottumwa.
