The Knoxville Baseball Squad ended its season on Friday losing to Winterset in the first round of the class 3A substate 9-4 heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Panthers fell behind early 3-0, but batted back by the 5th inning to get within one run at 3-2. But the bottom fell out on Knoxville as the Huskies plated five runs in their half of the 5th to put the game out of reach. Knoxville was able to plate two runs and get bases loaded in the 7th, but Winterset stopped the Panthers. Coach Turner Devore told KNIA/KRLS Sports it was a few plays not made that made the difference for his team.

Devore: “Just a couple of pl;ayes. It was the type of stuff we worried about with Winterset, and you have to make all of the playes and we didn’t. Credit to Winterset they did what they needed to do.“

Luke Roozeboom went 2/3 on the night with an RBI while Kyler Gifford took the loss going four innings and striking out two. Knoxville finishes the season with a 16-18 record.

Meanwhile, the Knoxville Softball Squad will travel to play #8 Carlisle in the class 4A Regional semi-final. The Panthers Got a two hitter from Ciara Heffron and the game winner in the sixth inning from Siena Scott to prevail 1-0. The Panthers will need to have something close to even better tonight to pull the upset. The Wildcats have a team ERA of 1.89. They also have a 32-8 record and finished 3rd in the Raccoon River Conference. Due to Carlisle’s policy of not allowing visiting media for their postseason baseball and softball games, we will have no live play-by-play of tonight’s game.
