Both teams had their top of the lineup ready to pounce going into the seventh inning tied, but it was advantage Dutch as they defeated No. 12 in 4A Bondurant-Farrar in the Regional Softball playoffs Saturday 3-2, as heard live on KRLS2.

Before the dramatic finish, Pella scratched out a run taking advantage of three Bluejay errors in the top of the 1st inning. Neither team would score until the bottom of the 4th, when the Dutch defense committed three errors of their own to give the home team the lead back 2-1. A daring squeeze play call by the Dutch with Ava Curry at third base was cashed in with a Katie Scheckel bunt to tie the game in the top of the 5th.

Both teams would enter the 7th inning knotted up with their best hitters available in what had been an evenly-matched game. Curry would get on base with a lead off single, stole a base, and advanced on a dropped third strike to set-up Emma Eekhoff. The pitcher would squib a single into the outfield to get the RBI.

Eekhoff had to then try to shut the door in the bottom of the 7th, only to give up a lead-off double. Following a sacrifice bunt to move that runner to 3rd, the Dutch defense held with a pop-up and ground ball out to finish the upset victory. Curry scored all three runs for Pella.

The Dutch improve to 22-11 and will try to figure out No. 3 in 4A Norwalk for a fourth time with a state bid on the line. Coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on 92.1 KRLS.
