Another day of oppressive heat is in the forecast today, which could give way to severe weather this evening. Daytime highs will once again top out in the mid-90s with heat index values well above 100 degrees likely this afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk for severe weather for much of central Iowa for storms that could develop throughout the day as a strong cold front is set to drop through the state. The primary threat will be winds in excess of 70 MPH with storms that develop.

Much cooler days are ahead, as below average temperatures could be in place through much of the remainder of the month. Highs in the upper 70s and low 80s will be common through the upcoming weekend.
