PCM softball team will be competing in the Class 3A Region 2 finals tonight.

The #8 ranked Mustangs will face the 33-7 Clarinda Cardinals in a game that has a trip to the state tournament on the line. PCM is coming off a 1-0 win over Clarke Saturday night in their regional semifinals game while Clarinda defeated Atlantic 10-7 in their game Saturday. The Mustangs and Cardinals are completely unfamiliar opponents as the two teams have never played each other in the Bound era. In terms of the two teams’ production this year, Clarinda has the edge over PCM offensively as they average 9.1 runs per game compared to the Mustangs 6.2, but PCM has the statistical advantage defensively as they only give up an average of 1.8 runs per game compared with 3.9 for the Cardinals.

A head turning statistic as a testament to the PCM pitching staff is that the Mustangs have played 13 less games than the Cardinals this season but have 55 more strikeouts as a team. Tonight’s regional final in Monroe starts at 7:00 pm.
