One of the most active severe weather seasons in decades continued to impact many local communities on Monday, as multiple warnings were issued in south central Iowa. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from just after 6 p.m. until around 7:30 as wind gusts in excess of 70 MPH knocked down several trees and large branches and caused damage to some buildings in and around Pella, near Lake Red Rock, Otley, and several communities in Jasper and Mahaska Counties. A car and trailer also overturned at the Lake Red Rock dam, which temporarily closed the road, according to Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, but no injuries were reported. Multiple staff members and Weatherology meteorologists contributed to on-air coverage. Much calmer weather is on the horizon, according to the National Weather Service, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s in place for the next several days.
