The PCM softball team defeated the Clarinda Cardinals 13-1in four innings in the Class 3A Region 2 Finals Tuesday night to punch their ticket to the state softball tournament in Fort Dodge for the first time in school history.
The #8 ranked Mustangs were dominant offensively and defensively in the contest from the start of the game. The Mustangs put up three runs right out of the gate in the first inning to go up 3-0 heading into the second. PCM then scored two more in the second and the Cardinals scored one in the third to make it a 5-1 game going into the fourth. In the fourth inning, the Mustangs offense exploded for eight runs to put the game out of reach and seal the run rule victory. Rylee Parsons pitched another lights out game for PCM like she has done all season. PCM Coach Shaun Hudnut said it’s an awesome feeling for this group to make it to the state tournament and that they’ve earned “their seat at the table”.
“We set this expectation six years ago. We knew it was going to take a lot of hard work to get this this point and a lot of talented girls to come and and believe in what we wanted to do and the feeling is indescribable. We felt like we were going to have an extremely talented team this year coming and we talked all year about getting a seat at the table, in the conference and before the game we talked about getting our seat at the table in the state tournament and the girls took that tonight, and it’s just awesome.”
PCM will take on Williamsburg on Monday night at 7:00 pm in the first round of the state tournament in Fort Dodge. The Mustangs are the #7 seed and will play at Channel Seeds Field. KNIA/KRLS will be broadcasting PCM’s game on Monday.
