For the third straight season, the Twin Cedars Softball Squad made the regional finals, and for the second straight season, the Sabers season ended in that game as they fell to Wayne on Tuesday 11-1. The game was close for the first five innings as the Falcons struck first in their half of the 1st inning and then two more in the 3rd. The Sabers finally got the bats going in the 4th inning when Cristen Durian brought home Kenzyn Roberts on a sacrifice fly. The Sabers had runners in scoring position and were unable to get any more runs home. Wayne then proceeded to plate eight runs in the 6th inning to walk off the game. Sabers Coach Zack Dunkin was proud of how his team hung in, but conceded it simply got away from them in the 6th.
Dunkin: “Five really competitive innings. We got behind in the first, and could have folded the tent and got to 3-1. The 6th inning, the ball really started rolling down the hill and we couldn’t stop it.”
Jillian French took the loss giving up all 11 runs on six hits, seven walks and six strikeouts. The Sabers finish the season 15-12 and will say goodbye to two seniors Roberts and Jillian French. They will also say goodbye to Coach Zack Dunkin as he announced before the season he is stepping down from coaching. Dunkin coached for 13 seasons and compiled a record of 236-146 and a State Championship in 2022..
