The City of Indianola and Indianola School District are partnering to make school parking and student walking commutes safer this fall, with a speed reduction on Highway 92 from 45mph to 30mph, with marked signs near the intersection of the Indianola High School and Middle School. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the school district reached out about the change, as due to the construction at Indianola High School, students driving to school will be parking across the street near the Indianola Stadium and crossing the street at the stoplight. Reeves said he wants to remind drivers to be sas safe as possible when driving in the area.
“We just want to make sure our kids are safe, and that we are supporting the schools during the construction season and beyond. I think people will get into the habit of parking over there since there is so much more space. So they are going to perpetuate this beyond the construction of the school.”
The district also plans on having shuttles from the stadium to the school in the morning and afternoon. The speed reduction is still pending approval by the Iowa Department of Transportation.
