The only ranked matchup of the Class 3A state baseball tournament stretched into primetime due to rain in Cedar Rapids, but the No. 9 Dutch couldn’t keep their season in tact as they fell to No. 4 Bishop Heelan 3-1, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS Monday.

Pella’s first pitch came three-and-a-half hours after its scheduled start, but both teams started out with a run in the first inning despite the long delay. The Dutch had four of their outs recorded on the bases, which hampered their ability to score runs and keep up with the Crusaders, which included three pickoffs by Heelan Pitcher Jaron Bleeker.

Teagan Hoekstra gave up the eventual game-winning RBI in the 2nd inning, but stretched to 5 1/3 innings in his final game of 2024 with eight strikeouts. Samuel Carlson picked up two hits in the lead-off spot.

Pella wraps up the season at 27-10 overall and has no graduates on the roster.
