After seeing three months of decline in February, March, and April, local unemployment rates increased for the first time since January in the month of June, according to the latest data from Iowa Workforce Development.
The unemployment rate in Marion County rose to 2.2% last month, which is up from 1.7% in May. There are 18,940 residents employed in Marion County and 420 seeking work and receiving benefits. The rate also increased in Warren County, jumping up to 2.6% in June after recording just 1.9% in May. In Warren County, there are 28,500 employed residents and 800 individuals seeking work and receiving benefits.
Statewide, Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 2.8% last month, which matches the rate set in May, but is down from 2.9% in June 2023.
