The PCM softball team wrapped up their first Class 3A State Tournament appearance on a high note Tuesday afternoon, defeating Sumner-Fredericksburg 3-1 in a consolation game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

PCM’s lone senior Lark Drake wasted little time getting the Mustangs on the scoreboard, needing just three pitches to blast a solo home run over the right field fence. The Cougars answered back in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on the lone Mustangs’ error to retie the game at 1-1. That score held until the top of the sixth inning, when the PCM offense broke through to untie the contest. With one out, Addi Steenhoek reached on an error and Tori Lindsay doubled off the left field fence to put runners on second and third for the Mustangs. A batter later, Libby Winters drove in both runners with a double of her own and that was all PCM needed to secure the win. Starting pitcher Rylee Parsons scattered five hits and a walk over 6.1 innings while allowing no earned run to record the win. Camden Webb earned the save in relief, allowing just a hit by pitch in registering the final two outs. Wearing the Mustang uniform for the last time, Drake led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate that featured a home run and a pair of singles.

PCM finishes the season with a 25-5 record overall and a top six finish in Class 3A.
