With varying degrees of experience entering their final baseball season on Eagle Lane, seven seniors depart the Pella Christian baseball team this summer.

Caleb Van Arendonk, Luke Fynaardt, and Trevor Veenstra were four year varsity players for the Eagles baseball program, and helped lead Pella Christian back to the State Tournament last year for the first time since 1994. Rejoining that core group of seniors after several years away from the sport, were Tysen De Vries, Isaiah Breems, and Trae Van Maanen. The three seniors that returned to baseball this summer combined to post a .303 batting average and a .952 fielding percentage. Also joining the program this season was team manager Keagan Fopma. Eagles head coach Chris Fynaardt said that all seven seniors brought unique leadership to this year’s team and that they did a great job mentoring those returning to the program next season.

“Younger kids could look it up to all six of them, and take something away from each one of them. They weren’t the most vocal group, as compared to last year, but they led by example, how you do things, and just set a good example for the younger kids in the program.”

The seven seniors led Pella Christian to a 14-21 record this season and a trip to the Class 2A Substate 6 semifinals.
