RAGBRAI will be coming to Knoxville today for an overnight stop and there are important closures the community should be aware of.

The downtown square will be closed starting at 6:00 am along with several streets in each direction. A map detailing all downtown road closures can be found at the bottom of this story and a full list of closures according to the Knoxville Police Department are below.

Festival area (Square/Downtown):

*Main St. from Roche St. to 4th St.

*Robinson St. from Roche St. to 4th St.

*Montgomery St. from Roche St. to 4th St.

*1st St. from Marion St. to Montgomery St.

*2nd St. from Marion St. to Montgomery St.

*3rd St. from Marion St. to Montgomery St.

*4th St. from Main St. to Montgomery St.

(Marion St. will be open. Montgomery St. will be closed)

Main Campground (Rec Center/High & Middle School):

*Madison St. from Park Lane to the east entrance of Madison Heights Apartments. (This will affect no homes or intersections.)

*HWY 92 off-ramp onto HWY 14 (east & west) from 9AM to 6PM. (Wednesday, July 24)

*HWY 92 off-ramp onto HWY 5 (east & west) from 5AM to 11AM.

*HWY 14 northbound traffic at HWY G76 from 8AM to 6PM (local traffic will be able to utilize HWY 14).

NO PARKING will be allowed on the following roads:

*Park Lane (north and south) from West Elementary to the Veterans  District. This is part of a shuttle route with large haulers.

*200 block of W. Montgomery St. and 200 block of S. Harlan.

There will also be many businesses closed today so that their employees can volunteer for RAGBRAI. It is also important to note that the Marion County Courthouse will not be open today either. Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch encourages the community to embrace this event.

“I’m asking that you be patient, but at the same time embrace it and enjoy it. It’s a great day for Knoxville. It’s fun and it’s something different. It’s an opportunity for us to put Knoxville in a good light.”

Riders will leave Knoxville Thursday morning on Attica Road as they head toward their next stop in Ottumwa.
