
The Martensdale-St. Mary’s and Southeast Warren softball teams each won a one-run ballgame on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the class 1A state softball tournament, the Blue Devils winning 2-1 over Edgewood-Colesburg and the Warhawks 3-2 over Wayne.
Martensdale-St. Mary’s pitcher Campbell German pitched a three-hitter as they broke through on offense with a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings as Brynnly German and Sydney Bears drove in the runs, and held on to earn the victory.
Southeast Warren trailed 1-0 after the first, but scored two runs in the second to take a brief lead, only to see Wayne tie the score. The 2-2 score held until the 8th inning when the Warhawks pushed a run across, as Kaylynn Holmes pitched the full contest giving up only four hits.
Martensdale-St. Mary’s advances to play St. Edmond in the semifinals, while Southeast Warren will play Sigourney. The games are today at 7 and 7:30pm respectively.
